On Your Website - Don’t hide your video!
There are many factors to consider while trying to build a winning website. “If you build it, they will come” is not the case with websites.
A common mistake is to build a site, only to find that it just languishes. Quickly, a client becomes disillusioned as this magical way of advertising to potentially millions of viewers just doesn’t seem to be working. A client begins to wonder why, after expending dollars and time and energy to prepare a site that will supposedly increase revenue, it isn’t catapulting their business to another level.
Building a site is easy, but driving traffic to it, well, that’s another subject. First, the structure of the site must be sound with proper coding. Next the content needs to be skillfully and artfully crafted, leading the viewer carefully from point A to point B without a drop-off. And you will need to master SEO or Search Engine Optimization techniques in order to get it seen by the search engines and their bots or spiders. . Consider several things while designing your site.
Color is important in a website. There are winning colors and not so catchy ones. For the most part, blue seems to be an overall winning color. It’s the same in video. For some reason, blue soothes, captivates and holds our attention. Always pay close attention to color when designing your site.
Placement of video: Did you know that on some browsers the video box or screen is not seen if it is placed too far down on your website? Some browsers are loaded with toolbars and when the ‘clicker’ clicks onto your site, they may not even realize that you have a video introducing yourself or your company. The video (which is normally a sales booster) should be front and center at the very top of your site, making it almost impossible for the viewer not to click on to hear and see what you and your company have to offer. You’ve invested in a professional video, but now must ensure its visibility.
A common mistake, often seen in website design, is not having the ability to capture the personal information of your clickers so as to follow up with a potential client. You can offer them coupons or emails about specials that you have. This “content management system” is important. Again, utilize that front page of your site by placing a sign-up box for everyone to see, especially if you are selling products. You need to propel your clicker into securing more information. By placing the sign-up box on the first page, you will hopefully decrease your drop-off or bounce rate.
Take a look at an infomercial website. On the homepage, there will be product, its cost, and a way to order, hassle-free - all the information a customer needs to make a purchase - no searching for a contact page, no digging for a corporate phone number, just boom, right there, begging you to go ahead, fill it in, hit send, and make that purchase.
No purpose is served by having the specifics of that product buried on your site several pages back. A clicker doesn’t want to spend time digging. He/she simply wants to quickly read the specs of the product, give their credit card number, hit enter and go.
Invest in a good, soundly structured website and add video. Now, watch your sales soar!
